Career

Psenner took part in three Junior European Championships from 1993 to 1995 and achieved third place in the single-seater in 1994 as the best result . In the World Cup he started with Arthur Künig in the doubles. They celebrated their first victory in the 1994/1995 season , achieved another podium and finished fourth in the overall World Cup. In 1995 they also won the last European Cup . In the 1995/1996 season they did not win a World Cup race, but achieved second place in the overall World Cup with two thirds and three second places behind the Austrians Helmut and Andi Ruetz , who won five of the six races of the season. At the 1995 European Championships in Kandalakscha , the Psenner / Künig doubles won the silver medal behind Ruetz / Ruetz and the bronze medal at the 1996 World Championships in Oberperfuss . At the European Championships in 1995, Psenner also started in a single-seater, but did not finish.

In the 1996/1997 season Psenner started with Anton Blasbichler in a two-seater. They scored a third and a second place. During the season Christian Hafner became his new partner in the two-seater. At the end of winter Psenner / Hafner celebrated their first World Cup victory in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , but in the overall World Cup Psenner did not make it into the top six with either Blasbichler or Hafner. At the European Championships in 1997 in Moos in Passeier , Psenner / Hafner won the silver medal behind the Austrians Ruetz / Ruetz, and Psenner finished seventh in the single-seater. In the 1997/1998 season , the Psenner / Hafner doubles achieved two World Cup victories in Kronplatz and Mölten and another two podium places, which in turn placed them second in the overall World Cup behind Ruetz / Ruetz. At the 1998 World Championships in Rautavaara , Psenner / Hafner finished fifth and Martin Psenner also came fifth in the single-seater. In the 1998/1999 season , Psenner / Hafner only took part in the first three World Cup races. You came on the podium twice and in sixth place in the overall World Cup. They did not start at the 1999 European Championship . They contested their last joint World Cup race at the beginning of the 1999/2000 season in Oberperfuss, where they took third place.

From the winter of 1999/2000 Psenner started in the single seater in the World Cup. First he got a few top 10 placements and in the overall World Cup he came eleventh three times in a row. In the 2002/2003 season , he finished all five World Cup races in which he took part in the top 10, making it eighth in the top ten for the first time in the overall World Cup. After he had not started at the 2000 World Championships , he achieved fifth place at the 2001 World Championships in Stein an der Enns and eighth place at the 2002 European Championships in Frantschach-Sankt Gertraud . At the 2003 World Cup in Železniki , however, he was only 14th.

In the 2003/2004 season , Psenner achieved his first World Cup podium places in single-seater with two third places in Grande Prairie and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Since he could only show two twelfth places in the other four races, he still only came in tenth in the overall World Cup. At the 2004 European Championships in Hüttau , he finished fourth and missed the bronze medal by less than a tenth of a second. In the 2004/2005 season Psenner was able to establish himself at the top of the world with consistently good performances. He finished in the top three in five of six races and celebrated his first World Cup victory in a single-seater in the season finale in Olang. With that he finished second in the overall World Cup behind Anton Blasbichler, who won four races. Only at the 2005 World Championships in Latsch did he fail to achieve these results. He finished seventh in the singles and fifth in the team competition.

At the end of the 2005/2006 season , Psenner celebrated his second World Cup victory in a single-seater in Oberperfuss. In the entire winter, however, this was his only podium, which is why he dropped to fourth place in the overall World Cup. At the 2006 European Championships in Umhausen , he only came in seventh. In the 2006/2007 season, Psenner was once again among the top three in four races, including his last World Cup victory on January 21, 2007 in Longiarü . It was the second time that he finished second overall in the single-seater World Cup. This winter, Psenner and Johannes Hofer took part in two-seater World Cup races for the first time in seven years. Her best results were two third places in Longiarü and Umhausen, which made them fifth in the overall double-seater World Cup. At the 2007 World Championships in Grande Prairie, Psenner was fourth in the single-seater, this time only four hundredths of a second behind bronze, and with Johannes Hofer fifth in the doubles, at the same time as the Austrians Christian and Andreas Schopf . In the team competition he was used in the doubles and reached sixth place.

In the 2007/2008 season , Psenner again took part in World Cup races exclusively in the single-seater. He only drove the first three races of the season, in which a fifth place at the start in Moos in Passeier was his best result, and on January 20, 2008, he contested his last World Cup race in Umhausen. Until the next winter he still took part in the races of the Intercontinental Cup.
