The 10th FIL - natural track luge World Cup took place from 26 to 28 January 1996, Oberperfuss in Austria instead.

The Austrian Gerhard Pilz became world champion in single-seater for the fifth time in a row and thus set a record that is still unbroken today. The Italian Anton Blasbichler reached second place and won his first medal at world championships after becoming European champion in 1993. In third place, Franz Obrist , was another Italian. He had won the silver medal at the last World Cup and had become European champion in 1991.

In the women's singles, the Austrian Irene Zechner became world champion, who had previously been European champion twice. Second place went to her teammate Elvira Holzknecht , who had already won several medals at world and European championships. Sandra Mariner , also from Austria, won the bronze medal. For them it was the first medal at a world championship. For the first time, three Austrians stood on the podium at a world championship.

The Austrians Reinhard Beer and Herbert Kögl won the gold medal in the two-seater . This made them the first world champions in doubles that did not come from Italy. The reigning European champions Andi and Helmut Ruetz from Austria won the silver medal . Third place went to the Italians Martin Psenner and Arthur Künig , for whom it was the only medal at world championships.
