Peter Lechner (born April 15, 1966 ) is a former Austrian natural track luge . He also started in the single-seater, but was particularly successful in the two-seater. Lechner won three medals in the doubles world and European championships and three World Cup races , reaching five times third place in the overall World Cup .

Career

Peter Lechner achieved his first international successes in the 1993/1994 season , when he and Simon Meinschad took sixth place in the overall doubles World Cup and came tenth in the single-seater at the 1994 World Cup in Casies . Starting next winter, Lechner started with Martin Schneebauer in a two-seater for four years . They reached fifth place in the overall World Cup in the 1994/1995 season and achieved sixth place at the 1995 European Championships in Kandalakscha . In the single seater, Lechner finished eighth at the 1995 European Championships. On December 30, 1995, Schneebauer / Lechner achieved their first podium in the World Cup with third place in Rautavaara ; the first victory followed on January 19, 1997 in Szczyrk . Both in the 1995/1996 season and in the 1996/1997 season they reached third place in the overall World Cup. At the 1996 World Championships in Oberperfuss and the 1997 European Championships in Moos in Passeier , they each took sixth place in the doubles. In the single-seater, Lechner was twelfth in 1996 and twentieth in 1997. In their last joint World Cup season in 1997/1998 , Schneebauer / Lechner finished third in three of the six races and came fifth in the overall World Cup. At the 1998 World Cup in Rautavaara, they finished seventh. From 1998 Peter Lechner did not compete in the single-seater.

After Martin Schneebauer ended his career in 1998, Peter Lechner competed in a two-seater with Peter Braunegger for three years from winter 1998/1999 . In these three years Lechner / Braunegger were not worse than fifth in any World Cup race, were eight times among the fastest three and celebrated two World Cup victories on January 16, 2000 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and on January 7, 2001 in Unterammergau . In all three seasons ( 1998/1999 , 1999/2000 and 2000/2001 ) they achieved third place in the overall double-seater World Cup. They won a total of three medals in international championships. At the European Championships in 1999 in Szczyrk they came second behind Helmut and Andi Ruetz , only at the 2000 World Championships in Olang they just missed the podium in fourth. At the 2001 World Cup in Stein an der Enns , Lechner / Braunegger achieved third place in the doubles and, together with Marlies Wagner and Gerhard Pilz, came second in the team competition, which was held for the first time. After the winter of 2000/2001, both Peter Lechner and Peter Braunegger ended their careers.
