After the 1988 World Cup had to be canceled due to weather conditions, the Austrian Gerhard Pilz successfully defended his 1986 title. The silver medal went to the Italian Corrado Herin , who was world champion in doubles as early as 1986 and this year won silver in doubles. In the single seater it was his only World Championship medal. Third was the Italian Harald Steinhauser , who had already won bronze in 1986.
