Markus Wichan (born January 19, 1988 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ) is a former German natural track luge . He started in a single seater and, like his brother Christian, belonged to the WSV Unterammergau . Markus Wichan was German Junior Champion in 2004 and 2005 and competed in the World Cup from 2005 to 2009 . His best result was a 19th place, which he achieved in his first World Cup race. In the overall World Cup, his best result was a 21st place in the 2006/2007 season .

Career

Markus Wichan took part in international junior championships from 2003, but initially only achieved placements in the bottom field. He was more successful at national level when he became German Junior Champion in 2004 and 2005. On January 9, 2005, Wichan made his World Cup debut on his home track in Unterammergau . He reached 19th place, which was his best World Cup result. Three weeks later he finished 34th at the 2005 World Championships in Latsch . In the World Cup this winter, he could only score once again, at the season finale in Olang . In winter 2005/2006 he only took part in the first World Cup race, which he finished in 27th place. From the 2006/2007 season Markus Wichan competed regularly in the World Cup. This winter he reached four 22nd places as well as a 23rd and a 32nd place, with which he achieved the 21st place in the overall World Cup and thus his best overall result. At the Junior European Championship 2007 in St. Sebastian he was 15th and a year later 14th at the Junior World Championship 2008 in Latsch. In the World Cup he achieved the best results in the 2007/2008 season, 21st place in the second race in Umhausen and two 23rd places in the first race in Umhausen and the final in Železniki , which, as in the 2008/2009 season , was in the two 23rd places in Umhausen and Unterammergau were his best results, achieved 26th place in the overall World Cup. After not taking part in the World and European Championships in 2006 and 2007, he was back at the European Championships in Olang in 2008 , but retired in the first round. At the 2009 World Championships in Moos in Passeier he finished 28th. After 2009, Wichan did not participate in any competition.
