The WSV Unterammergau is a winter sports club from Unterammergau that focuses on natural track tobogganing.

history

The WSV Unterammergau was founded in 1924 after tobogganing was already widespread in the Unterammergau area. Internal club championships were held in the first few years. The natural track toboggan races were held over long distances. On January 10, 1931, the club organized an international toboggan race over a distance of 6000 m near the Pürschlinghäuser. The best time achieved was 8:20 minutes. During the Second World War , the association's activities were suspended before the association was re-established in 1949. From 1958 the WSV Unterammergau organized not only the southern German and Bavarian championships, but also cup races of the Bavarian Bobsleigh and Sledging Association and, for the first time, German championships. The number of active tobogganers rose to 30. In 1967, the association founded the European natural tobogganing cup together with Inzing ( Austria ) and Olang ( Italy ) . In the 1960s, the Pürschlingweg toboggan run had to be closed. From 1972 a new toboggan run was planned, which was then built from 1977. Part of the new toboggan run was relocated in 1992 after the last European Cup race took place on the track in 1991. In 1999 the railway was almost completely rebuilt. In the process, some areas were defused and the gradient was reduced. After the renovation, the club again organized international races. In the same year, a summer toboggan competition on roller sledges was held for the first time. On January 1 and 2, 2000, the WSV hosted international horn sled races for the first time . A year later, the club hosted a race in the natural track toboggan World Cup for the first time .

In addition to the natural track tobogganing department, the club also has an alpine skiing department, which among other things produced the multiple German champion Miriam Vogt . The association also offers cross-country skiing , football and gymnastics . The football division plays in the Zugspitze Group 3 district class.
