Klaus Terfloth

Klaus Terfloth (born May 20, 1929 in Düsseldorf , † November 24, 2010 in Bonn ) was a German diplomat .

Life

Terfloth studied law from 1948 to 1952 and passed the first state examination in law in 1951, followed by a doctorate in law. jur. in 1953.

After joining the Foreign Office in 1953, he passed the higher service examination in 1955. He then spent two years as an attaché at the Amman Legation in Jordan and was transferred to the Consulate General in Hong Kong in 1957 , where he remained until 1960 and served as Vice Consul, and later from 1959 as Consul .

From 1960 he worked for two years at the German embassy in Kuala Lumpur . Back in Germany, Terfloth worked in the Foreign Office in Bonn from 1962 to 1965 , where he was promoted to Legation Council First Class in 1965 . From 1965 to 1969 he was employed as head of the Luanda consulate in Angola, which was then still in Portugal. In 1969 Terfloth was promoted to Senior Legation Councilor and worked in the Foreign Office in Section 102 until 1970.

As of July 2, 1970, he was given leave of absence from the Foreign Office to take up his post as head of cabinet of the German Commissioner at the Commission of European Communities. In 1972 he was promoted to lecturing councilor, first class, before he took up the post of ambassador in Yangon, Myanmar , with the approval of the Federal President on February 27, 1973. The presentation of the credentials to the head of state and chairman of the Revolutionary Council of the Union of Myanmar U Ne Win took place on May 14, 1973. The first ambassador of the GDR to Myanmar, Klaus Kühnel , had already presented his credentials on May 12, 1973. Terfloth remained in this ambassadorial post until 1975, when he became head of the press department in the Foreign Office. In 1977 he became ambassador to Tunisia . This was followed by ambassadorial posts in Pakistan (1980–1984) and Finland (1984–1988). On January 9, 1989, Terfloth took up the post of ambassador in Romania and held this position until he left the diplomatic service on July 1, 1992.

Terfloth was married and had three children.
