Straelen Translator Prize from the Kunststiftung NRW
The Straelen Translator Award of the Kunststiftung NRW ( translator award of the Kunststiftung NRW until 2012 ) is a literary award and is considered one of the most important awards for literary translators in the German-speaking area . It is awarded by the Kunststiftung NRW in cooperation with the European College of Translators in Straelen .
The prize is intended to recognize outstanding achievements in the field of literary translation from German into another or from another into German. The award is endowed with 25,000 euros and was presented every two years from 2001 to 2007 at the European Translators' College in Straelen, twice in succession to a translator into German and then once to a translator from German. The prize has been awarded annually since 2007. In 2012, a sponsorship award for the translator award of the Kunststiftung NRW of 5,000 euros was awarded for the first time.
The foundation has appointed five independent jury members from among literary translators to decide on the award of the prize. Price proposals are accepted from publishers , literary critics and translators. The terms of the tender will be announced in autumn.
On the occasion of the tenth award of the prize, the Kunststiftung NRW renamed the prize the “Straelener Translator Prize of the Kunststiftung NRW”.
