Nikolaus Stingl

Nikolaus Stingl (born December 3, 1952 in Baden-Baden ) is a German literary translator .

Life

Nikolaus Stingl studied English and German at the University of Heidelberg from 1973 to 1978 , from which he graduated in 1978 with a master's degree. He has been working as a literary translator since the early 1980s. Stingl lives in Flensburg .

Nikolaus Stingl translates narrative literature from English into German , including works by Cormac McCarthy , Andrew Miller , Thomas Pynchon and Neal Stephenson . Stingl was awarded the Heinrich Maria Ledig-Rowohlt Prize in 1995, the Stuttgart City Literature Prize in 2000 and the Paul Celan Prize in 2007 . In 2013, Stingl received the translation award from the Kunststiftung NRW .

Stingl is a member of the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works , VdÜ
