Dirk van Gunsteren (born 1953 in Düsseldorf ) is a German literary translator from English and Dutch and a freelance editor.

biography

Van Gunsteren grew up in Duisburg; his mother is German, his father was a Dutch shipowner. After several stays in India and the USA, he studied American studies at the University of Munich . Since 1984 he has been working as a translator, particularly from English. Van Gunsteren lives in Munich (as of autumn 2019).

In 2007 van Gunsteren received the Heinrich Maria Ledig-Rowohlt Prize, endowed with € 15,000, for his translation of Anglo-Saxon literature.
