Frank Heibert

Frank Heibert (born November 14, 1960 in Essen ) is a German translator , author and musician .

Life

Frank Heibert was born in Essen in 1960 and now lives in Berlin . After studying Romance languages and German literature in Berlin, Rome and Paris , he founded in Berlin in 1990 along with Thomas Brovot the Zebra Literature Publishing , which he headed until 1995th Heibert works as a project manager and moderator of literary events, holds seminars on translation issues, writes literature reviews and organizes readings of his translations.

Since 1983 he has been translating literature from English, French, Italian and Portuguese.

In addition to plays, he has also translated works by Boris Vian , Alfred Jarry , Marie Darrieussecq , Tony Kushner , Nicky Silver , Don DeLillo , Lorrie Moore , Tristan Egolf , Tobias Wolff , Yasmina Reza and Jorge de Sena into German. In 2012 Heibert received the Heinrich Maria Ledig-Rowohlt Prize for his translations , and in 2016 the Helmut M. Braem Translator Prize .

In 2006 his first novel Kombizangen and the jazz album The Best Thing on Four Feet appeared together with his jazz combo Finkophon Unlimited. In the 2015/2016 winter semester, he held the August Wilhelm von Schlegel visiting professorship at the Free University of Berlin .

He is a member of the PEN Center Germany and the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works , VdÜ.
