Tristan Egolf

Tristan Egolf (born December 19, 1971 in San Lorenzo de El Escorial , Spain , † May 7, 2005 in Lancaster , Pennsylvania ) was an American writer and musician .

Life

Tristan was born in Spain because his father worked there as a journalist. But he grew up in Washington, DC , Louisville, and Lancaster. His parents divorced in his youth. His mother remarried and his stepfather adopted him. Tristan then also took over the family name of the stepfather. He dropped out of college and traveled around the country making odd jobs. The writer used to play in punk bands. Most recently he was the front man of Doomed to Obscurity . Tristan Egolf was also active as a political activist; he demonstrated against US President George W. Bush . In Pennsylvania, he was also known as the leader of the political group The Smoketown Six .

In 1998 he published his first novel Lord of the Barnyard with the French publisher Gallimard, as the manuscript was rejected by US publishers. Gallimard had correctly recognized the potential of the book, as it was highly praised by the critics and was later published in the USA. In 2001, Skirt and the Fiddle followed , which cemented Egolf's reputation as a young talent in US literature, even if the commercial success of the debut was not repeated. The first three chapters of his third novel Kornwolf have already appeared on the Internet. According to press reports he is on a last rock - opera have worked.

Tristan Egolf lived in Indiana and eventually in New York (state) . On 7 May 2005. Egolf committed after months of depression suicide .
