Sérgio Sant'Anna

Sérgio Andrade Sant'Anna e Silva (born October 30, 1941 in Rio de Janeiro ; † May 10, 2020 ibid) was a Brazilian writer .

Life

Sérgio Sant'Anna studied at the Law Faculty of the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) in Belo Horizonte , graduating in 1966, followed by postgraduate studies at the Institute of Political Science at the University of Paris in 1967 . From 1972 to 1975 he was qualified as a professor of communication science at the Catholic University of Minas Gerais , which was followed by teaching at the Escola de Comunicação of the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) from 1977 to 1990 . After 1990 he began to devote himself entirely to literature and also worked as a columnist for various newspapers.

Sant'Anna wrote novels, short stories, plays and poetry. His works were u. a. Translated into German, English, French, Italian, Spanish and Czech. The multiple Prêmio-Jabuti-Prize winner published from 1987 in the renowned publishing house Companhia das Letras in São Paulo; in Germany the first translation of his works, Amazona in the translation by Frank Heibert , was published in 1992 by the Berlin publishing house Edition diá .

Sant'Anna died in May 2020 at the age of 78 after being admitted to Quinta D'Or Hospital in Rio de Janeiro with symptoms of COVID-19 .
