Thomas Brovot

Thomas Brovot (born August 9, 1958 in Cologne ) is a German literary translator .

Life

Thomas Brovot studied Romance studies and political science . He works as a freelance translator and lives in Berlin .

Brovot translates literary texts from Spanish , Portuguese and French .

He was twice awarded the "Translation Prize of the Spanish Embassy in Germany": 1997 for his translation of the work Die Marx-Saga by Juan Goytisolo and 2007 for the translation of the play The Wonderful Shoemaker's Wife by Federico García Lorca . In 2012 he received the Helmut M. Braem Prize for his retransmission of the novel Tante Julia and the calligraphers by Mario Vargas Llosa , and in 2018 Brovot, with special recognition for his translation of the novel Reise zum Vogel Simurgh by Juan Goytisolo, will be awarded for his complete works awarded the Paul Celan Prize .

Brovot is a member of the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works , VdÜ, on whose board he was active from 1997 to 2004.
