Jan Schönherr

Jan Schönherr (* 1979 in Weingarten ) is a German literary translator .

Life

After studying philosophy, sociology, political science and German at the LMU Munich and a year abroad at the Université de Poitiers , Jan Schönherr completed the postgraduate course in "literary translation from English" at the LMU Munich. He worked for several years as a research assistant at the Chair of Philosophy and Economics at LMU and has been working as a literary translator from English, French and Italian since 2009. He has received several awards for his work, including the Bavarian Art Award 2016 and the Kunststiftung NRW Award 2019 (for his translation of the novel New York by Francis Spufford ).

Jan Schönherr lives and works in Munich . He is a member of the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works , VdÜ, where, among other things, he is co-organizer of the annual conference in Wolfenbüttel , and second chairman of the Munich Translators' Forum.
