Michael Wolff (born August 27, 1953 in New Jersey ) is an American author , essayist and journalist . He writes regularly for USA Today , The Hollywood Reporter and the UK edition of GQ .

He became known worldwide through the book Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House , published in early 2018 , which was published in German in February 2018 under the title Feuer und Zorn .

Life

Wolff grew up in a Jewish family. His father Lewis A. Wolff worked in advertising, his mother Marguerite "Van" (Vanderwerf) Wolff (1925–2012) was a newspaper reporter. Wolff studied at Columbia College at Columbia University in New York City and also worked as an errand boy for the New York Times .

His first magazine article appeared in the New York Times Magazine in 1974 : a portrait of Patty Hearst kidnapper Angela Atwood , who lived in his neighborhood. Shortly thereafter, he left the Times and worked as a freelancer for the bi-weekly news magazine New Times .

In 1979 he published his first book, White Kids , a collection of essays, and received an advance payment to write a novel, which he never completed. Instead, he became a media entrepreneur.

In 1988 Wolff took over the management of Campaigns & Elections magazine . He also advised start-ups, including Wired , and was involved in financing for media companies. In 1991 Wolff founded a company for book packaging . His first project, Where We Stand , was the companion book to a PBS series. The next major project was one of the first internet guideposts: Net Guide , published by Random House . When this title appeared as a monthly magazine, it was taken over by the computer magazine publisher CMP Media .

Michael Wolff was married to the New York lawyer Alison Anthoine until 2014. They have three children together. Another daughter comes from the relationship with the author Victoria Floethe.
