Frankfurt roll call

The Frankfurt appeal for spelling reform is an appeal by well-known personalities that was directed against the spelling reform of 1996 . With reference to the Frankfurt Declaration on the Spelling Reform , the Weilheim German teacher Friedrich Denk once again formulated criticism of the spelling reform. At the Frankfurt Book Fair on October 6, 2004, 100 "first signatories" and by October 10 a further 150 reform critics signed the appeal.

“Since the Frankfurt Declaration on the Spelling Reform of October 1996, the arguments against this state measure have become more and more true. The announcement of several newspaper publishers to return to the tried and tested spelling and the countless changes in the 23rd Duden have confirmed the criticism again. In this situation, the signatories at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2004 once again appeal to the Prime Ministers and the Ministers of Education of the German states to avert further damage to the German language and literature, to overcome the gap between school and literature instead of deepening it, further, unforeseeable ones To avoid costs and to end the spelling reform experiment after eight years of increasing confusion.
