Sebastian Kleinschmidt

Sebastian Kleinschmidt (born May 16, 1948 in Schwerin ) is a German editor and publicist .

Life

Sebastian Kleinschmidt was born as the son of the pastor and preacher at the Schwerin Cathedral , Karl Kleinschmidt . He graduated from high school in 1966 and at the same time completed vocational training as an electrical signal fitter at the Deutsche Reichsbahn. He then served four years as a radio operator in the People's Navy . In 1968 he joined the SED . From 1970 to 1972 he studied history at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig , then until 1974 philosophy at the Humboldt University in Berlin . He then completed a research course in aesthetics until 1978 , which he completed with a doctorate . From 1974 to 1977, Kleinschmidt belonged to a conspiratorial opposition circle with Wolfgang Templin and Klaus Wolfram, which was dissolved by the Ministry for State Security .

From 1978 to 1983 he was a research assistant at the Central Institute for the History of Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR , from 1984 to 1993 research assistant at the East Berlin Academy of the Arts , from 1993 to 2013 at the United Berlin Academy of the Arts.

Kleinschmidt joined the editorial team of the cultural magazine Sinn und Form in 1984 . In 1988 he became deputy editor-in-chief and in 1991 took over the management of the magazine, which he held until 2013. In 1993 he became a member of the PEN Center Germany .

In February 2008, Kleinschmidt had a series of conversations with Daniel Kehlmann in Berlin , which was published in print under the title Requiem for a Dog .

His son Philipp Lengsfeld was born in 1972 from his later divorced marriage to Vera Lengsfeld .
