Wolfgang Balk

Wolfgang Balk (born January 20, 1949 in Munich ) is a German publisher .

Life

Wolfgang Balk completed an apprenticeship as a bookseller at Carl Hanser Verlag and then worked there as an advertising assistant. He made up his Abitur and studied German, linguistics, philosophy and book studies in Munich. From 1981 to 1985 he was sales manager at Hirmer Verlag . In 1986 he became chief editor of the Fischer Taschenbuch Verlag . In 1996 he became Managing Director of the German Pocket Book Publishing House (dtv). He headed the dtv until 2015.

In 2000, Wolfgang Balk was named “Publisher of the Year” by the specialist magazine Buchmarkt .
