Thomas Carl Schwoerer

Thomas Carl Schwoerer (born June 16, 1957 in São Paulo ) is a German publisher . From 1995 to 2015 he managed the Campus Verlag , which was founded by his father Frank Schwoerer. In 2015 he sold his fifty percent stake in the publishing house to the co-owner, the Beltz publishing group .

Life

Born in São Paulo, Thomas Carl Schwoerer spent his childhood and youth in Brazil and New York . At the age of 15, he and his family moved to the vicinity of Frankfurt am Main .

After graduating from high school in 1976 at the Goethe-Gymnasium in Frankfurt, he studied economics at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University and in 1983 he financed his graduate degree in economics with the translation of the campus long-seller “Competitive Strategy” by Michael Porter . Two years as a credit analyst at Bank of America followed , followed by an internship at Jürgens Buchladen in Berlin and an internship at Klett-Cotta Verlag in Stuttgart , before he expanded the business program of Campus Verlag as a lecturer from 1986 .

In addition to his publishing activities, Thomas Carl Schwoerer has also been involved in voluntary work for decades. Since 1975 he has been active in the German Peace Society - United War Resisters , since 2006 as national spokesman. From 1975 he was active with the German Young Democrats , from 1979 in the Liberal University Association .

For three years he was chairman of the Hessian publishers and booksellers association and member of the board of the public publishing group. From 1994 to 2015 he was a member of the Publishers' Committee and the Assembly of Representatives of the German Book Trade Association .

Honors

In 2001 Thomas Carl Schwoerer was named “Publisher of the Year” by the specialist magazine Buchmarkt . In 2007 the Federal Association of German Management Consultants declared him "Manager of the Year" and awarded him the "BDU ManagerAward".
