Thedel von Wallmoden (born June 17, 1958 ) is a German specialist in German studies , publisher and university professor .

Life

Thedel von Wallmoden is a member of the Lower Saxon noble family von Wallmoden and grew up in Alt Wallmoden . He studied German, history and philosophy at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen and with Albrecht Schöne at the Georg August University in Göttingen .

In 1986 he founded Wallstein-Verlag together with Dirk and Frank Steinhoff in Göttingen . They had their first successes through the use of innovative computer technology and with their book program. One of the first books was Mein scharmantes Geldmännchen , Gottfried August Bürger's correspondence with his publisher Johann Christian Dieterich . The publisher's first major book success was Ruth Klüger's memory book, continue living. A Youth (1992).

Thedel von Wallmoden is one of the co-founders of the Göttingen Literary Center . In 1994 he founded together with Andreas von Stedman in Haus Velbrück in Weilerswist - Metternich the Versandbuchhandlung Velbrück GmbH and is also one of the shareholders of the company. In 1999 it was expanded to include the Velbrück Wissenschaft publishing house, founded with Stedman and the long-standing Suhrkamp lecturers Friedhelm Herborth and Horst Brühmann , and from 2016 also by Dittrich Verlag and Barton Verlag.

In 1998 he was visiting professor at the University of Essen and was given teaching assignments at the Free University of Berlin , at the universities in Göttingen and Tübingen and in Heidelberg at the Ruprecht-Karls-University . He also worked in an advisory capacity for publishers such as Suhrkamp as well as for various literary societies and scientific commissions. In 2013 he was awarded an honorary professorship at the New Philology Faculty of Heidelberg University.

From 2004 to 2012 Thedel von Wallmoden was chairman of the book art foundation . Since 2018 he has been chairman of the historical commission of the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels and since 2016 he has been a member of the advisory board of the German National Library (DNB).
