The literary center Göttingen eV is a supraregional institution that sees itself as a "walk-in feature section" and discusses literature in relation to film, music, science, drama and pop culture. It was founded in April 2000 under the chairmanship of Heinz Ludwig Arnold , Thedel von Wallmoden and Hilmar Beck and was housed in the Lichtenberghaus for two years. Since 2002 the literary center has been located in Göttingen's old town (Düstere Straße). It is financed from funds from the state of Lower Saxony, the city of Göttingen, various sponsors and own funds.

The managing director and program manager is Anja Johannsen , who took over this position from Hauke ​​Hückstädt (now Literaturhaus Frankfurt ) in 2010 .

The literary center offers around 60 public events every year, as well as numerous other school events. The center in the center is formed by German-speaking and international authors. Voluntary work and school project

Every year, the Literary Center offers a small number of student volunteers supported by the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Göttingen . Since 2002, students of the Philosophical Faculty have been able to gain practical experience for one year each.

The Literature Makes School project aims to network schools in Göttingen and the region with the cultural sector. Literature should also come to life outside of school operations, the gap between school and contemporary literature should be closed. The project gives students insights into the practice of artistic creation in its various forms, into the backgrounds of writing, filming and being an author.

Working group and joint projects

The literary center is a member of a working group of literary offices and centers from Braunschweig, Göttingen, Hanover, Lüneburg, Oldenburg and Osnabrück. From this working group, the projects Status of the Lower Saxony Literature Houses and Net Notes of a Contemporary arose .

The members of the working group have been represented at the Leipzig Book Fair since 2005 . With the booth of the Lower Saxony literary houses , they offer “84 square meters of courtesy” for informal, purposeful encounters with contemporaries. In addition, a guest is always presented at the stand who is characterized by an original profile, including u. a. the young magazines Bella Triste and sprachgebungen .
