Hubert Witt

Hubert Witt (born June 20, 1935 in Breslau ; † October 11, 2016 in Leipzig ) was a German re-poet and editor .

Life

As a ten-year-old, who had already attended school in Glatz in Silesia for three years , Hubert Witt came to Jeber-Bergfrieden , today Saxony-Anhalt, after the end of World War II . He obtained his Abitur in Roßlau . From 1953 to 1957 he completed a course in German at the University of Leipzig , accompanied by internships in the Berliner Ensemble . The literary scholar Hans Mayer was one of his most important teachers.

In 1959 Hubert Witt became a lecturer at Reclam Verlag in Leipzig . In 1986 he began teaching at the Johannes R. Becher Institute for Literature , which he held until 1993.

Services

In the 1990s, Witt initiated the Leipzig literary autumn , was temporarily a member of the "Saxon Cultural Senate" and a member of the board of trustees of the German Literature Fund .

He has written numerous translations of poetry, mainly from Middle High German and Yiddish , published literary articles and wrote for radio. He did extensive editorial work and was a member of the PEN Center Germany . Hubert Witt is the father of the artist Ines Eck .
