Hans-Jürgen Heinrichs

Hans-Jürgen Heinrichs (born September 26, 1945 in Wetzlar ) is a German ethnologist and writer .

Life

Heinrichs was born in 1945 after his mother fled (from Danzig ) and grew up in various places in Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate.

From 1969 he studied German, theater studies and philosophy, and later also ethnology, in Cologne and Rome. In Rome he lived in a close circle of writers, musicians and directors (e.g. Ingeborg Bachmann , Giorgio Manganelli , Luca Lombardi , Jean-Marie Straub and Danielle Huillet ) and played in the film Nekropolis (with Viva, Pierre Clementi and others) . Since 1973 he has traveled to Europe and the Middle East, followed by major research trips to Africa, Easter Island and the Pacific. At the same time, he conducted extensive ethnological studies and research. From 1973 onwards he published his first prose works and literary theoretical essays in the then important literary journals Manuscripts and Akzente . In 1973 his first book Spielraum Literatur was published. Literary theory between art and science , which is regarded as the still tentative attempt to set in motion a dialogue between experimental forms of literature and the sciences. Shortly before, Heinrichs had initiated such a dialogue with philosophers, literary theorists and writers in two issues as guest editor of the journal Language in the Technical Age . On July 14, 1977 he did his doctorate in Bremen (Department of Social Psychology ) on New Models in Human Sciences .

In 1980 he founded Qumran Verlag für Ethnologie und Kunst, Frankfurt am Main / Paris, and headed it until 1984, later also as Edition Qumran at Campus Verlag . Within a short time the publishing house became a spiritual center of new movements ( ethnopoesy , ethnopsychoanalysis , structuralism , self-reflective psychoanalysis, etc.) and shaped a new book aesthetic. The most important, in some cases newly discovered, authors included Michel Leiris , Victor Segalen , Leonora Carrington , Michel Butor , Hubert Fichte , Gisela von Wysocki , Jacques Prévert , Max Raphael and Fritz Morgenthaler ..

From the beginning of the 1970s, Heinrichs wrote articles for literary, culturally critical and psychoanalytical magazines, for radio and large daily newspapers in Germany, Switzerland and Austria (FAZ, FR, Die Zeit, NZZ, Basler Zeitung, Weltwoche, Tagesspiegel, Presse, etc.) . Today Heinrichs lives as a freelance writer and academic publicist in Berlin.

The volume Storytelling World , published by Rowohlt in 1996, is considered to be his main work . In 2001 he was awarded the Prize for Dialogical Thinking for his numerous volumes of conversations (with Peter Sloterdijk, among others ) and his biographies and editions of works.

Peter Sloterdijk showed up from Heinrichs' book about him - Peter Sloterdijk. The Art of Philosophizing (2011) - disappointed; in Lines and Days (2012), Sloterdijk states that Heinrichs hardly perceives the "red threads of my work [...] and never creates the right generic terms."
