Walter Grasskamp

Walter Grasskamp (born May 27, 1950 in Kapellen / Erft ) is a German art critic and sociologist.

Life

Grasskamp studied literary history, art history, philosophy and sociology in Cologne, Konstanz and Aachen 1968–1974; In 1979 he received his doctorate. Since 1975 he has worked as a critic for radio, newspapers and specialist magazines. From 1985 he was professor for art history at the Universities of Applied Sciences in Münster and Aachen , and since 1995 he has been professor for art history at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . From 1999 to 2003 he was Deputy Rector there. Since 2003 he has been a member of the Academy of Arts , Berlin, Fine Arts Section. Grasskamp lives in Weilheim in Upper Bavaria .

Works

Grasskamp is the author of numerous works on modern and contemporary art, museum history, cultural politics and art in public space, theory of modernity, art and money, consumer theory and pop culture. His publications include a. “The unresolved modernity. Art and the public ” (1989), “ Art and money ” (1998), “ Consumer happiness ” (2000), “ Is modernity an era? Art as a model ” (2002), “ The cover of Sgt. Pepper (2004), “ A vacation day in the art business ” (2010), “ The art museum. A successful bad design ” (2016).
