Live and act

Eberhard Dünninger was one of two children from the marriage of folklorist Josef Dünninger and his wife Anny, née Geiß. He attended the old grammar school in Regensburg from 1946 to 1953 . During this time he was among other things head of school and active in Catholic youth work as well as in what was then the district youth council. After graduating from high school, he studied German, history and English at the University of Munich , at Trinity College in Dublin and in Würzburg. In 1958 he passed the first state examination for teaching at the grammar school. From 1959 to 1961 he trained as a librarian. In 1961 he received his doctorate and then worked as a scientific librarian for the Bavarian State Library . From 1965 to 1986 he was a consultant in the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture , among other things as Ministerialrat. In 1984 he was awarded the Nordgau Prize of the Oberpfälzer Kulturbund in the " Poetry " category. From 1986 to 1999 he was head of the state library administration in Bavaria before he retired.

From 1992, Dünninger was an honorary professor for modern German literature at the University of Regensburg . He was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon .

Dünninger was an avowed opponent of the spelling reform, which is noteworthy because of his office as the General Director of the Bavarian State Libraries at the time. He is one of the "disregarded signatories of the Frankfurt Declaration on the Spelling Reform ". He was an honorary member of the "Council for German Spelling eV".

While he used to be close to the CSU , he joined the ÖDP in 2002 , for which he entered the city council of Regensburg in the same year. At the beginning of 2008 he suggested naming a street in Regensburg to Otto Schwerdt , the board member of the Jewish community and resistance fighter against National Socialism , who died at the end of 2007 and had played a major role in Regensburg. In 2013, Dünninger resigned from the ÖDP parliamentary group in the city council and, together with other city councilors, founded the new parliamentary group of Christian-Social Citizens (CSB). In the local elections on March 16, 2014, Dünninger was elected from fourth place on the CSB list and moved back to the Regensburg city council. In mid-May of that year, Dünninger finally moved to the CSU parliamentary group in the city council.

In 2008 he also ran for the Upper Palatinate District Day . Dünninger was widowed last and had a son, two daughters and two grandchildren.

His written estate is in the Regensburg State Library .
