Hayley Jane Lewis (born March 2, 1974 in Brisbane , Queensland ; Hayley Taylor since her marriage ) is a former Australian swimmer.

Lewis achieved her breakthrough at the age of 16 when she won five gold medals at the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland , in the disciplines of 200 m freestyle , 400 m freestyle, 200 m butterfly and 400 m medley, as well as the Australian 4 × 200 m -Season. She also won a bronze medal in the 200 m medley.

A year later she became world champion in the 200 m freestyle at the 1991 World Swimming Championships in Perth . She won two silver medals in the 400 m freestyle and 400 m medley as well as a bronze medal in the 200 m butterfly.

In her later career, she mainly focused on the 800m freestyle. She achieved her best result at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona with a silver medal, and she also won bronze in the 400 m freestyle.

Then she switched to the long distance and competed at the 2001 World Swimming Championships in Fukuoka over 5 km, where she was third. She planned to compete in the Athens 2004 Olympics over the 10km distance, but that discipline was removed from the Olympic program. Therefore, she ended her career on November 22, 2001.

Lewis runs her own swimming school that bears her name. She is married and has two sons.
