Egmont Hesse

Egmont Hesse (born November 21, 1959 in Erfurt ) is a German publisher and entrepreneur .

Life

Hesse grew up in Schwansee (Großrudestedt) in Thuringia and studied library science with Leonhard Lorek at the Humboldt University in Berlin from 1981 to 1984 . After dropping out of his studies, from 1984 to 1987 a. a. with Johannes Jansen , Leonhard Lorek, Christoph Tannert in Berlin the unofficial magazine schaden and with Ulrich Zieger and Andreas Koziol from 1988 to 1990 the magazine use , which specializes in translation and rewriting . He published numerous poetic texts under the Ps. Uta Johanna. In 1990 Hesse received the Calwer Hermann Hesse Prize for publishing the magazine “ use” . The jury's reasoning stated: “With use , the jury honored one of those self-published and self-produced magazines that were published independently of the official publishers of the GDR and against resistance from the authorities. [...] use has made an outstanding contribution to contemporary poetry and prose in the GDR and promoted the development of new literary forms of expression. ”On the occasion of the award ceremony, Hesse and his laudator Peter Waterhouse proposed the establishment of a European translator fund.

With Sascha Anderson , Henryk Gericke , Andreas Koziol , Klaus Michael , Rainer Schedlinski and Joerg Waehner , Hesse founded the literary publishing house Druckhaus Galrev in 1990 . After the reorganization of the publishing house into a layout and printing company that is still active today, Hesse has merged the ownership interests since the mid-1990s and ran the business with Rainer Schedlinski. In 1996 the attempt made with the Kreuzer (Magazin) publisher Egbert Pietsch and the Connewitzer Verlagbuchhandlung Leipzig to revive the poetry edition Poetry album under the editorship of Sascha Anderson and Bert Papenfuß failed . After the book production was stopped, Hesse and Rainer Schedlinski managed the backlist and the website of the publisher.

Hesse has been running the Internet portal Planet Lyrik since 2010 , with the Leipziger Poetenladen and Lyrikline.org Berlin one of the most important poetry online portals in Germany. A preview of May 2010 said: "Here you touch upon the relentless attempt that repeatedly provokes failure a new announcement of Modern International Poetry (MIL) on a communication surface typical of the time ... ". Hesse lives in Berlin .
