biography

Joerg Waehner grew up on the Baltic coast near Rostock . He learned the profession of typesetter in the printing house Karl-Marx-Stadt (today Chemnitz ), which he left before the start of the contract to work in a non-state printing company. In 1982 Waehner was arrested by the Ministry of State Security on false charges and excluded from "visa-free travel" (PM12). He was banned from studying and was deported to the NVA, where he did his military service in Pirna from 1982-1983 (he later published the factual novel “Einstrich-Keinstrich” about his army experiences).

In the mid-1980s, the first artistic and literary activities followed in collaboration with Klaus Hähner-Springmühl , Matthias Stein, Claus Löser and the AG Geige . In 1986 he moved to Berlin , where from then on he was part of the avant-garde scene in Prenzlauer Berg. In 1987 he met Heiner Müller for the first time .

During the GDR era, he had various collaborations with artists and publications in unofficial publications ("Damage", "Use", "Liane", "Entwerter / Oder", "Heart attack", "Ariadnefabrik", "A3", "Context") and in official publications (“No Man's Land”, “Fine Arts”, “Temperaments” and “Sunday”). With Sascha Anderson , Henryk Gericke , Egmont Hesse , Andreas Koziol , Klaus Michael and Rainer Schedlinski , he co-founded and co-partnered the Berlin literary publisher Druckhaus Galrev in 1990 , which he left in 1992 to protest against the involvement of two employees and friends in the Stasi.

In 1994 he received his political rehabilitation from the Free State of Saxony, the scholarship of the Senate of Berlin and until 2000 he studied German and art history at the Humboldt University in Berlin . From 1996 to 2013 Waehner was a consultant for the Berlin IT company Freecom for cultural communication and graphic design.

Waehner has been performing performatively with Kurt Buchwald since the late 1980s and in 1990 presented his photographic work for the first time in Friedrich Loock's gallery "Wohnmaschine". Since then he has participated as a photo artist in numerous domestic and foreign exhibitions. His works are in private and public collections. Waehner lives and works in Berlin.
