Peter Waterhouse

Peter Waterhouse (born March 24, 1956 in Berlin ) is an Austrian writer .

Life

Peter Waterhouse is the son of a British officer and an Austrian. He grew up bilingual and attended the cathedral grammar school in Verden (Aller) (Lower Saxony), where his father worked for several years as a British liaison officer. After graduating from high school in Winsen (Luhe) in 1975 , he studied German and English at the University of Vienna and in 1981/82 at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles . In 1982 he passed the master's examination , in 1984 he received his doctorate in philosophy at the University of Vienna with a thesis on utopia in the poetry of Paul Celan .

Peter Waterhouse writes poetry, essays, short stories, plays, non-fiction and novels; he also translates from English and Italian. His texts have been translated into English, Italian, Swedish, Hungarian, Norwegian and Danish. In 2000 he founded the Wolfenbütteler Translators Talks . Waterhouse is a member of the interest group of Austrian authors . He lives in Vienna .

Awarded the Nicolas Born Prize 2011 by the Lower Saxony Minister for Science and Culture Johanna Wanka in the Künstlerhaus Hannover
