Rosemarie Tietze

Rosemarie Tietze (* 1944 in Oberkirch, Baden) is a German literary translator , interpreter and lecturer .

life and work

Rosemarie Tietze grew up in Oberkirch and studied theater , Slavic and German studies in Cologne, Vienna and Munich . In 1969/70 she spent a year researching at the Moscow Theater School (GITIS). After completing additional studies at the Languages ​​& Interpreters Institute in Munich , she passed the state examination as a translator and interpreter for Russian in 1972.

Initially working as an interpreter in science, business and culture, she was able to gain a foothold as a literary translator towards the end of the 1970s. From 1984 to 2009 she taught at the Munich Language and Interpreting Institute. She runs advanced training seminars for literary translators. In the summer semester of 2012 she was a visiting professor at the German Literature Institute in Leipzig , and in the winter semester of 2012/13 she was the August Wilhelm von Schlegel visiting professor for the poetics of translation at the Peter Szondi Institute of the Free University of Berlin.

In addition, Rosemarie Tietze presents Russian authors and the art of translation at readings and in the media, e.g. B. in the event series "Translators Profiles"; she worked on Alexander Kluge's television programs .

She has also campaigned extensively for her professional group. 1976–1988 she was an honorary board member of the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works VdÜ; 1981–1989 she worked in the editorial department of the latter's magazine “Der Translators” (today “Translators”). From 1994 to 2001 she was President of the Circle of Friends for the International Promotion of Literary and Scientific Translations . She was the initiator and from 1997 to 2009 chairwoman of the German Translation Fund .

Rosemarie Tietze lives in Munich and Oberkirch. She is a member of the PEN Center Germany as well as lecturer for the master's degree in “Literary Translation” at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , in the area of ​​Slavic Philology.

“The oeuvre of a translator, no matter how many different (original) authors there may be, connects a certain something, a unique linguistic fingerprint, a unique understanding of translation.
