Brücke Berlin Prize for Literature and Translators
The Brücke Berlin Literature and Translator Prize (acc. To self-name) is an international literature and translator prize that has been awarded every two years since 2002 by the BHF Bank Foundation in cooperation with the Literary Colloquium Berlin (LCB) , the Goethe Institute and the Deutsches Theater Berlin is awarded.
With the Brücke Berlin Prize, the donors want to highlight (according to the award criteria) "an important contemporary work from the literatures of Central and Eastern Europe and its outstanding translation into German". The award is endowed with 20,000 euros and is shared among the authors and translators. The award was under the patronage of Péter Esterházy (1950–2016).
Since 2014, the Brücke Berlin Initiative Prize can also be awarded. With it, the founders want to “point out the essential contribution of institutions or individuals who, with their work, give Central and Eastern European literature in German-speaking countries a podium and contribute to their understanding.” This award is endowed with 5000 euros.
In 2018, a Brücke Berlin Theater Prize will be awarded for the first time , each endowed with 5000 euros for the author and the translator of a play.
