Mirjana Wittmann

Mirjana Wittmann (also: Mirjana Milošević Wittmann , Mirjana Milošević-Vitman ; born October 6, 1938 as Mirjana Milošević in Sarajevo ) is a literary translator .

Life

Mirjana Wittmann grew up in Belgrade . In 1956 she came to the Federal Republic of Germany , where she completed a language course at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . Then she worked for radio, especially for the Serbian service of Deutsche Welle . She has been a freelance journalist and translator since 1997 . She lives in Bonn with her husband, the translator Klaus Wittmann .

In cooperation with Klaus Wittmann , Mirjana Wittman translates narrative works , plays and radio plays from Serbian , Croatian and Bosnian into German . In 2006 both received the Brücke Berlin Literature and Translation Prize for their translation of David Albahari's motherland, and in 2011 the Paul Celan Prize in recognition of their life's work .
