Nedjo Osman

Nedjo Osman (also Nedjdret Osman ; born January 6, 1958 in Skopje , Yugoslavia ) is an actor , poet and director living in Germany .

Life

Osman began his acting career at the Pralipe Roma Theater in Skopje . After studying at the Film and Theater Academy in Novi Sad , a. a. with Rade Šerbedžija , he worked as a theater actor at the National Theater KPGT in Subotica and made guest appearances on the stage of the Serbian National Theaters in Novi Sad and JDP Belgrade.

In 1991 he came to the Mülheim an der Ruhr theater in Germany as a member of the Pralipe Theater , where he has lived and worked ever since. Since 1995 he has been artistic director of the TKO / Choreodrama - European Romano Theater in Cologne together with his partner Nada Kokotović . He also works as a social worker, poet, journalist and theater pedagogue in various Roma projects in Cologne and Frankfurt am Main . From 2000 to 2003 he directed and moderated programs in Romanes at Radio Multikulti in Berlin and from 2002 to 2014 also at Deutsche Welle in Bonn .

Nedjo Osman is a Romany translator and poet, and from an early age he discovered his passion for writing. His inspiration is the street, the neighborhood where the Roma live, the experience with the non-Roma and love as a source of beauty. His poems have appeared in Serbia, Turkey, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Holland and Germany.

Awards

For his role as Leonardo he received the Golden Laurel Wreath at the International Theater Festival MESS Sarajevo in 1991 and for the leading role of Sebastian in the play "Anita Berber" at the Vojvodina Theater Festival in 1997. In 2003, the Yul-Brynner- Prize awarded in Berlin, awarded to Nedjo Osman for directing the play "Medea" and as a Roma actor. In Zagreb 2017 he received the “ Šaip Jusuf ” award for his life's work. The award is given for the contribution to the development of the Roma community in the field of education. Likewise for the acquisition of knowledge and protection of the Roma language as historical and cultural wealth, as well as the diversity of the world's intangible cultural heritage.
