Art Prize for German-Czech Understanding

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Art Prize for German-Czech Understanding is a double prize that honors German and Czech personalities who have made a special contribution to the cooperation. The winners include politicians, diplomats, business managers, church representatives, writers, translators, teachers and museum professionals. The winners do not receive any monetary amounts, but rather pictures or sculptures donated by German and Czech artists. The award ceremony takes place alternately in Germany and the Czech Republic. The prize was established by the Adalbert Stifter Association and was first awarded in 1994. Since 2010, the prize has been awarded jointly by three German and three Czech institutions. In addition to the two main award winners, two honorary award winners have also been recognized since 2011.
