Herbert Werner (politician)
Herbert Werner (born March 20, 1941 in Teplitz-Schönau ) is a German politician ( CDU ) and former member of the German Bundestag .
education and profession
After being expelled from his Bohemian homeland, Herbert Werner came to Württemberg in 1945 and grew up in Ulm . After graduating from Kepler-Gymnasium Ulm , he studied history and English at the University of Tübingen and the University of North Wales .
After completing his studies, he became an assessor at the grammar school in Langenau and then until 1972 a teacher and later a senior teacher at the Humboldt grammar school in Ulm .
Werner has been married since 1975 and has six children.
politics
In 1972 the CDU politician succeeded Ludwig Erhard in the Ulm electoral district and became a member of the German Bundestag, of which he was a member until 1994.
In addition to his work for the interests of the Ulm constituency, Werner was also involved in the Bundeswehr , domestic and security policy, civil protection and disaster control, and family policy. In particular, he was involved in the discussion about the legalization of abortion as an opponent of an unlimited period regulation .
Herbert Werner advocated the reunification of Germany throughout his political career. In the vote on the capital question, he voted to keep the seat of government in Bonn .
Even before the creation of the Children's Commission of the German Bundestag , Werner was the official children's representative of the German Bundestag from 1990 until he left parliament.
Other offices
As the successor to Josef Stingl , he became national chairman of the Ackermann congregation in 1991 and held this office until 1998. Werner lived in Prague from 1998 to 2006 and worked there until his retirement as co-managing director of the German-Czech Future Fund .
Werner has been the spokesman for the Working Group of Catholic Expellees Organizations since 1991 and was also a member of the Central Committee of German Catholics and the Sudeten German Council .
Honors
In 2007 Herbert Werner was awarded the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
Pope John Paul II awarded him the Order of Gregorius in 1995 for his services to the Roman Catholic Church and appointed him Cavalier .
The Czech government awarded him the Czech Merit Medal II Level in 2007 for his services to the German-Czech reconciliation .
The THW-Helfervereinigung Baden-Württemberg named him honorary chairman as a thank you for his many years of commitment to the Federal Agency for Technical Relief .
In 2006 he received the Art Prize for German-Czech Understanding from the Adalbert Stifter Association .
