Hermann Huber (diplomat)

Hermann Huber (born January 29, 1930 in Munich ; † May 4, 2018 in Grafing near Munich ) was a German lawyer and diplomat . From December 1988 to August 1992 he was the German ambassador in Prague and from September 1992 to 1995 the German ambassador in Madrid .

Life

Hermann Huber was a son of the former mayor of Grafingen (1952–1966) and Grafinger honorary citizen Franz Xaver Huber.

Huber completed a law degree at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and the University of Lausanne . In 1955/56 he entered the diplomatic service. This was followed by positions in Zurich (1956–1957), Reykjavík , Rome (1957–1960) and Leopoldville (1960–1965). He was involved in setting up the German Embassy in Prague (1968–1970), where he returned after stints in Mexico (1973–1976) and Moscow (1980–1984). From December 21, 1988 to August 30, 1992, he was ambassador to Prague. He was in the Lobkowitz Palace when thousands of GDR citizens fled to the grounds of the West German representation in the Czechoslovak capital from August 1989. He organized her temporary accommodation on site and the approved departure to the Federal Republic of Germany on the evening of September 30, 1989.

From September 1992 to 1995, Huber was the German ambassador in Madrid with simultaneous accreditation for Andorra .

Hermann Huber was married to Jacqueline Huber and had three daughters. Since his retirement, he has lived again in his hometown of Grafing near Munich, where he died in May 2018 at the age of 88.
