Winfried Vahland

Winfried Vahland (born April 1, 1957 in Beckum , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German manager . Until mid-October 2015 he was CEO of Škoda Auto as with headquarters in Mladá Boleslav , Czech Republic .

Life

Vahland graduated from the Technical University of Darmstadt with a degree in industrial engineering with a focus on mechanical engineering and economics. He graduated from the General Motors Institute in Michigan ( United States ) with a degree in business administration.

Act

In 1984 Vahland started working as a project analyst for European investments at Adam Opel AG . Three years later, he joined General Motors Europe as Head of Manufacturing Strategy Review. In 1989 he became head of the Investment Controlling department.

In 1990 Vahland switched to Audi AG , where he was in charge of corporate planning, profit analysis and sales controlling. In 1993 he became director of group controlling at Volkswagen AG . From 1995 to 1997 he was responsible for sales management for the Volkswagen brand and the Volkswagen Group as well as for sales for the Volkswagen brand in the Asia-Pacific region. In 1997 he took over the position of Finance Director at Volkswagen do Brasil Ltda. A year later he became Vice President for Finance and Corporate Strategy. He was also responsible for the Volkswagen business on the Argentine market.

In August 2002 Vahland was appointed a member of the Škoda Auto Board of Management. A year later he became Deputy Chairman of the Board of Management of Škoda Auto.

In July 2005, Vahland took over the position of President and CEO of Volkswagen (China) Investment Company and Global Vice President of Volkswagen AG. In July 2006 he was appointed Vice President of Volkswagen AG.

In September 2010 he returned to Mladá Boleslav , where he took over the role of CEO of Škoda Auto.

In mid-October 2015, Vahland, who was to take over management of the North America, Mexico and Canada region for VW AG on November 1, 2015, left the group after 25 years.

Vahland is currently a member of the supervisory board of the Volvo Car Group in Gothenburg, Sweden. He is also a member of Proton's board of directors in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Awards

In January 2006 Vahland was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Economics in Prague . He received another honorary doctorate in July 2012 from Dalian University of Technology, China. The Shanghai Tongji University appointed him in 2007 as Advisory Professor ("advisory professor"). Changchun City made Vahland an honorary citizen in 2006. In 2012, Vahland was the first German to receive honorary citizenship of the city of Chengdu (China). Furthermore, a year later he was honored with the Art Prize for German-Czech Understanding of the Adalbert Stifter Association .
