Aleš Veselý (born February 3, 1935 in Čáslav , † December 14, 2015 in Prague ) was a Czech painter and sculptor .

life and work

Veselý studied graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. From the mid-1960s he attracted attention with his object sculptures, often made of steel and wood, and his drawings . For his often monumental works he used industrial scrap and scrap wood and used everyday objects such as scaffolding, wheels, cages and frames, which he put together to create new, idiosyncratic object sculptures.

The artist's works can be seen in public spaces around the world, such as the Bochum City Park , and are included in museum collections such as the graphic collection of the Folkwang Museum , Essen, and the collection of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. From 1990 he was professor of monumental sculpture at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts. He lived and worked in Prague.
