Udo Grashoff

Udo Grashoff (born January 4, 1966 in Halle / Saale ) is a German writer and historian.

life and work

Grashoff first studied biochemistry at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and, after the Peaceful Revolution in the GDR, history and literary studies. In 2006 he received his doctorate . He lived until August 2014 in Leipzig and taught and conducted research at the local university , especially the GDR history . Since September 2014 Grashoff is a DAAD - Lecturer at University College London worked.

Grashoff published poetry , including two volumes of poetry so far. In his non-fiction books he deals with GDR history and the regional history of Halle, among other things with black living . His publications on dealing with suicides in the GDR attracted particular attention . The collection of farewell letters I would like to close now, edited and commented on by him , was an "unexpected bestseller" in Germany, was translated into several languages ​​and was particularly well received in the English-speaking world.
