location

Mehrow is east of the Wuhle, which forms the Berlin city limits, on the Barnim ridge . The average height is 60- 65  u m. NN .

The district is not, like Ahrensfelde or Lindenberg, on one of the radial lines from Berlin to the surrounding area, but lies exactly between these on the main roads from Ahrensfelde to the neighboring Eiche and the Hönow district of the neighboring municipality of Hoppegarten .

In addition to the village center, Mehrow has another settlement area called Trappenfelde, which is not far from the Berliner Ring on the road to Altlandsberg .

history

Mehrow village church (rear view)

Mehrow was created around the year 1300 along the historical connection between Köpenick and Bernau . The first documentary mention of the knight's fief comes from a document dated May 12, 1327, in which the former owner Alvericus von Snetlingen handed over the fief to Reinicke von Berlin . Ownership changed several times in the following years and passed to the Britzke family in the 16th century . They were masters of Mehrow until 1716. In 1725 a large part of the village church burned down, only the walls made of field stones were preserved. After that the building received its wooden tower and in 1828 new bells.

The beginning of industrialization towards the end of the 19th century also led to the expansion of Mehrow. In addition to a village school, a Vorwerk was built east of the village center , which was officially named Trappenfelde in 1888 . From 1900 Mehrow was owned by the Berlin industrialist Robert Stock , who also acquired three other goods. He held the estate until his death in 1912. The estate itself was dissolved in 1937, parceled out and then given to members of the SS .

The Nazi government planned to build a community center to train young people in the spirit of National Socialism in Mehrow. The Berlin architecture firm Böhmer & Petrich supplied the sketches and construction plans in 1935.

During the Second World War , Mehrow was almost spared from fighting or destruction. After the end of the war in 1945, the land was distributed to new farmers and refugees from the eastern regions as part of the land reform . In 1954 the LPG Mehrow emerged, which was later merged with the neighboring LPG Blumberg . In 1990 it was dissolved.

After the fall of the Wall in 1990, Mehrow experienced, in contrast to the neighboring villages, a comparatively low influx of people from Berlin, as the place is not on a main road and there is no direct connection to Berlin (bypassing Ahrensfelde or Eiche). On October 26, 2003, Mehrow was incorporated together with the villages of Blumberg , Eiche and Lindenberg into the new municipality of Ahrensfelde-Blumberg, which was renamed Ahrensfelde on October 1, 2004.

In the lower right field, the bustard symbolically represents the district of Trappenfelde. The green symbolizes the forest areas in this area.

The coat of arms was designed by the Erfurt heraldist Frank Diemar at the end of 2002 . Since the 675th anniversary in 2002, it has been decorating various public facilities in the town.
