Gabrielle Alioth (born April 21, 1955 in Basel ) is a Swiss writer .

Life

Gabrielle Alioth grew up in Riehen and studied economics , art history and philosophy at the universities in Basel and Salzburg . She completed her studies with a licentiate degree . From 1979 she was assistant for operations research at the University of Basel and research assistant at Prognos AG.

In 1984 she moved to Ireland with her then husband, the historian and journalist Martin Alioth (divorced in 2015), where she initially worked as a journalist and translator and has worked as a freelance writer since 1990. Since 2010 she lives in Termonfeckin ( County Louth , north of Dublin). In 1991 she took part in the Ingeborg Bachmann Competition in Klagenfurt .

Gabrielle Alioth is a writer of novels , short stories , children's books and travelogues .

Gabrielle Alioth is a member of the Association of Authors of Switzerland , the PEN Center for German-Speaking Authors Abroad and was a member of the program committee of the Solothurn Literature Days from 2017 to 2020. In 1991 she was awarded the Mara Cassens Prize . In 2020 she received the culture award of the municipality of Riehen.
