Tsutomu Imamura
Tsutomu Imamura ( Japanese 今 村 力 Imamura Tsutomu ; * 1943 in Tokyo , Japan ; in some credits the first name 力 is also read as Chikara ) is a Japanese production designer .
He made his debut as a production designer in 1979 with Hiroto Yokoyamas Jun . In 1982 he was nominated for the first time for the Japanese Academy Award in the category Best Production Design for his work on Shunya Ito's crime film Yūkai hōdō . For Ma no toki and Yasha , both directed by Yasuo Furuhatas , as well as for Yoshimitsu Morita's film adaptation of a book by Sōseki Natsume , Sorekara , he won the production design award at the Mainichi film competition in 1986. He was also nominated for the Japanese Academy Award in 1986 for these three films and for Yoshikuni Matsunaga's Kekkon annai mystery . 1987 followed another Japanese Academy Award nomination for Kyabare and A-Hōmansu .
He worked with Yoshimitsu Morita four more times. For example, he created Kitchen based on Banana Yoshimoto in 1989 and Mirai no omoide: Last Christmas based on the manga artist Fujiko F. Fujio in 1992 .
Imamura created the sets for several films by director Yoichi Sai , such as Where is the moon? (1993) and Mākusu no yama (1995). The film A Dog Called Quill , which shows the life and training of a guide dog in Japan, was also made together with Sai .
