Cumerio was one of the most important processors of copper in Europe and operates smelting plants and refineries in Belgium, Bulgaria, Italy and Switzerland. Various semi-finished products are produced, such as copper wire and sheet metal, billets.

The company is part of Aurubis AG .

Cumerio was founded in 2005 when the parent company Umicore spun off its copper activities. The name Cumerio is an anagram of Umicore .

At the end of 2006, 1450 people were employed by Cumerio and sales reached 3.4 billion euros.

takeover

Cumerio hit the international headlines in mid-2007 when both Norddeutsche Affinerie and A-Tec Industries wanted to acquire Cumerio. By February 18, 2008, Norddeutsche Affinerie had taken over 91% of Cumerio. On April 15, 2008, the complete takeover of Cumerio was completed through a squeeze-out .

On February 26, 2009, the general meeting of Norddeutsche Affinerie AG resolved to rename the company to Aurubis AG.
