Cybotron

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cybotron was a style- defining electro duo of the 1980s, consisting of Juan Atkins and Richard Davis aka 3070 .

history

Atkins and Davis met in the late 1970s while studying music at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor , Michigan . Characterized by P-funk and electronic music a la Kraftwerk , they began to produce dance music on electronic equipment. The first two singles appeared in 1981 and 1982 on Atkins' own label Deep Space . Since one could sell a few thousand units, a recording contract with Fantasy Records followed for the next singles and the album .

The duo split in 1985 because Davis pursued a rockier and world music approach and Atkins wanted to produce more straightforward dance, the later techno .

As Cybotron , Davis single- handedly released two albums and several singles in a different style.
