Cyro Giambruno

Cyro Giambruno (* 1898 in Mercedes; † June 1, 1948 ) was a Uruguayan politician .

Giambruno, who according to the official parliamentary database belonged to the Partido Nacional , is listed in other sources as a member of the Partido Colorado .

He was a member for the Florida Department in the Asamblea Nacional Constituyente elected on June 25, 1933 , the constituent national assembly. In the following period he exercised from May 18, 1934 to May 24, 1938 and from August 25, 1938 to April 14, 1941 a mandate in the Cámara de Representantes for the Florida Department. From 1938 to 1940 he was President of the Chamber there. From 1941 to 1943 he was Minister for Public Education and Social Affairs. In the 34th and 35th legislative periods he then occupied a seat in the Senate of Uruguay from March 2, 1943 until his death on June 1, 1948 . From 1943 to 1948 he was appointed Second Vice-President of the Chamber and in 1947 and 1948 that of First Chamber Vice-President. In 1947 he also held the presidency of the Comision Permanente del Poder Legislativo .

His brother Mario Giambruno was briefly captured by the crew of the German submarine U 510 as captain of the steamship Maldonado on August 2, 1942 in the course of its sinking during World War II .

In the Uruguayan city of Fray Marcos , Escuela No. 45 "Cyro Giambruno" a school founded in September 1943 takes its name.
