from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

D'Arcy Corrigan (born January 2, 1870 in County Cork , Ireland , † December 25, 1945 in Los Angeles , California ) was an Irish actor.

life and career

D'Arcy Corrigan initially worked as a lawyer and worked, among other things, as the secretary of a member of parliament. Only at an advanced age did he become an actor and worked, among other things, for a stock company . At the age of 55 he made his film debut in Hollywood in 1925. With his very distinctive, wrinkled face, Corrigan usually got small but very memorable film appearances. Mostly he played cranky, pathetic or melancholy characters in all genres. Corrigan played a morgue in the horror film Murder on Rue Morgue starring Bela Lugosi , a blind man in John Ford's drama The Traitor and the dark, silent spirit of the future of Christmas in the Dickens film adaptation A Christmas Carol . In 1939 he largely withdrew from the film business.

Especially in Corrigan's later career years, many of his 55 film appearances were unmentioned in the credits, including in classics like Leopard you don't kiss as Professor LaTouche, who only appears in the first scene of the film. D'Arcy Corrigan died of a heart attack at Christmas 1945, nine days before his 76th birthday.
