The Däumling via ferrata is a medium-difficulty via ferrata ( B / C ) on Gartnerkofel , municipality of Hermagor-Pressegger See , Carinthia , Austria .

Origin and location

The via ferrata was built by Go-Vertical on behalf of Nassfeld-Liftgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG , has been accessible since July 11, 2014 and was officially opened on August 3, 2014. It is located on the west side just below the summit of the Gartnerkofel on the eastern edge of the Nassfeld ski area and is accessible via an easy and well-marked hiking trail.

From the Austrian side, it can be reached via Nassfeld Straße from the valley town of Tröpolach . Parking is available at the valley station of the Gartnerkofelbahn (approx. 1400 m), the Alpenhotel Plattner (approx. 1600 m) and the Watschiger Einkehralm (approx. 1630 m). The chairlift of the Gartnerkofelbahn with its mountain station at almost 1900 m leads to the entrance of the via ferrata within a few minutes' walk.

Numerous climbers on the second rock tower

The entrance is at a clearly visible resting place with a table and benches and leads through a channel that is filled with snow residue in spring to the first rope bridge. This is followed by an ascent over the steep slabs of the Däumling rock tower , on the top of which is a flat plateau with a good view of the Carnic and Julian Alps .

Then you reach a second rock tower over the 40 m long “Nepal Bridge”, at the beginning of which there is an emergency descent. Over steep slabs, edges and corners you reach the third rope bridge at the top, which leads to a smaller rock tower. Climbing around to the left you finally reach the fourth rope bridge and over this you reach easy walking terrain, which ends at another resting place. From there, the summit of the Gartnerkofel can be reached in an average of 15 minutes.

The entire via ferrata is around 380 m long, leads over around 150 meters in altitude and is well secured with metal brackets in difficult places that can be used as step and grip aids.
