The Döhnsdorf castle is the remainder of a medieval tower hill castle (Motte) near Döhnsdorf in the Schleswig-Holstein community of Wangels in the Ostholstein district .
The system had a radius of around 40 meters. The tower hill, made of earth, has a diameter of approx. 24 meters and is up to five meters high. It was protected by a ditch about 12 meters wide and by a rampart up to five meters wide, which today is almost no longer visible in the area.
The castle complex was built on the southern edge of a (now drained) lowland - the water of a dammed stream fed the moat.
The construction of the castle complex took place as a refuge at the time of the conquest of Wagrien by the Holsten in the 12th century.
The castle is located south of Döhnsdorf (about 150 meters from the road (Dorfstraße) to Wasbuck ) on a meadow. The tower hill, which is made up of a few trees, is easily recognizable from afar. The remains of the castle, which is considered to be one of the better preserved in Wagrien, are under monument protection as a ground monument .
