When the sporting landscape changed fundamentally in the Soviet occupation zone (BZ) after the Second World War due to the ban on all sports clubs, a loosely organized sports community (SG) was initially created in Dömitz. The SG Dömitz became known nationwide through its soccer team when it took part in the first national soccer championship in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 1946/47 . In the Mecklenburg-West relay of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania regional class, one of the five highest divisions in the SBZ, the Dömitzer took eighth place out of ten teams. Since the national class was reduced from four to two relays for the 1947/48 season, the SG Dömitz was not enough to keep the league.

In 1953 the Dömitzer footballers rose from the district league to the Schwerin district class, it was the 4th league in GDR football . The former sports community had meanwhile been converted into the company sports community (BSG) Einheit Dömitz, the sponsoring company was the city administration. Until 1965 the BSG unit remained in the district class, which was only fifth class between 1956 and 1963 due to the existence of the 2nd GDR League as the 3rd division. 1965 succeeded the Dömitzern promotion to the third-class district league Schwerin . There Unity Dömitz played three seasons until 1968, then rose again to the district class and was passed there in 1968/69 to the Ludwigslust district league. The team did not recover from this crash, and from then on the BSG no longer played in GDR football at the district level.

In the 1970s, the company sports association changed the sponsoring company. The state-owned company electronic components in Dömitz took over the sponsorship and the BSG renamed itself Elektronic Dömitz. After the political change in 1990 and the associated economic changes in East Germany, the system of company sports associations collapsed. As a result, members of the previous BSG Elektronic founded the registered club Dömitzer Sportverein from 1906 in 1990. This happened with reference to the previous club name at the beginning of the 20th century. Football has again developed into the most famous department, although it has not yet come out of the district class level (as of 2016).
